South-East Shotokan Karate Association.
The following codes of conduct create an environment conducive to martial arts training. They must be observed at all practices. While this list is by no means complete, it should guide you towards more disciplined and effective training.
| • | At all times, students must respect and obey the instructor and other higher ranking belts and show respect for the Dojo. |
| • | Bow before entering or leaving the Dojo. |
| • | If you are late for practice, you must ask permission to join the class. You do this by standing at attention at the corner of the Dojo until the instructor recognizes you. After bowing to each other, you must do the exercises assigned to you for being late and then join the class. This rule may be relaxed at the discretion of the Sensei. |
| • | It is up to the discretion of the Sensei to give you permission to stretch out on your own before joining the class. |
| • | You may ask questions during class by raising your hand and waiting to be recognized. Instructors are to be addressed as Sensei. You must speak to the instructors with your hands respectfully at your side. |
| • | Turning is always done by placing your right foot behind your left and turning to the right. |
| • | If your belt comes loose, quickly step to the side, turn around and retie your belt, and resume training. |
| • | When a black belt enters the Dojo, the first student who sees the black belt must call the class attention and have the class bow . |
| • | You may not leave the Dojo at any point during training without the explicit permission of the Sensei. |
| • | You may not chew gum, talk, swear, put your hands on your hips, or lean against the walls at any point during class. |
| • | The Dojo and club equipment must be kept clean. If a student brings club equipment to class or borrows it, she or he is responsible for ensuring its return. |
| • | To continue to be a club member, attendance must be at least 4 classes for each two weeks of classes held. This allows some flexibility in student schedules but forbids inconsistent training. Violators will be subject to review and possible expulsion from the club. |
| • | Students should contact a club officer if they will be out of training for any period of time because of sickness, injury, etc. |
| • | Students should, in general, strongly try to stay for the full two hours for all classes. |
Please speak to any officer if you have questions about these training rules.
